The holidays are almost upon us β€” a time of gathering, gifting, presence, and love. But it can also be challenging time for those of us grieving the physical absence of our loved ones, making their perceived absence painfully acute. It is important to take comfort in knowing that they are closer now than they have ever been.

I’m celebrating our loved ones continued existence and presence as we move through the lights and jingling bells of the holidays by having fun with the β€œghosts of Christmas.” So this month’s The Spiritual Read is filled with ghost stories, writing prompts, book recommendations to offer upliftment and comfort, some wintery soul poems, and the last laugh.

A Christmas Ghost Story

It’s not Christmas without an old-fashioned ghost story. Here’s the BBC’s 1976 version of The Signalman, Charles Dicken’s other ghost story. The Signalman follows an unnamed narrator's attempt to befriend a solitary rail worker who is plagued by a ghostly apparition whose continuous warnings lead to the rail worker's death.
